Classroom Rules:
What better way to get students engaged on the first couple days to review expectations for the year than to bring in a Mr. Potato Head and ask them what body parts could they use to make a list of important classroom rules they should follow throughout the year. Although I already know what body parts to use and what to say with it, I want the classroom to voice what they feel is important and respectful to not only the teacher, but their classmates.
- Looking Eyes
- Listening Ears
- Quiet Mouths
- Helping Hands
- Walking Feet

"Brownie Points!"
Students here can earn brownie points when they receive a compliment in the hallway from other teachers. I think it is very important to be in a straight line and quiet at all times while transitioning to another class. I want my classroom to be the "leaders" of the building by showing this positive manner. Also, they can earn brownie points if they are complimented while at lunch. This will be the only time my students will be out of my control, and I want them to display the same actions as if I was in the lunchroom with them. If I hear a negative comment, the "brownie points" will suddenly disappear. I will exclaim to my classroom that once they hit "x" amount of brownie points, they can have choices such as drawing from a prize box, having lunch in the room with the teacher, or a pass of getting out of one homework assignment. Materials for brownie points are: a cookie sheet and print outs of brownie clipart. Something simple and easy!

Quiet Critters!
Quiet Critters will be used to enforce silence at an appropriate time. I'll begin by telling my students that my critters need a friend to take care of them and can only survive with those that can be "quiet." When all students go silent, they will receive a quiet critter. The quiet critters can be collected back if students begin to get noisy. This will raise excitement because students can do many things with these: give them a name, build homes for them, etc.

Contracts:
Behavior-As a teacher, I want to be able to handle most behavioral issues in my classroom. I think it is laziness if a teacher just wants to send a student to the principals office immediately. Below is a student contract. If a student is misbehaving, they will be assigned one of these. An "X" will be placed beside what needs to be improved, with a date. This will require a student, teacher, and parents signature. A student will be able to receive 3 of these before further action will be taken. Further action could be:
